Hays are working in partnership with a small SEN school in rural Leicestershire to find a SEN Teacher to join their teaching team on a full-time basis from September 2025. This is a term-time, temporary-to-permanent position. The school is looking for a Teacher with QTS who specialises in English and/or Geography and has experience working with pupils with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD.
This Ofsted-rated 'Good' school provides holistic, alternative education for young people aged 11-17 who haven't been able to progress in traditional settings. The school is situated on a picturesque 8-acre smallholding between Leicester and Hinckley, operating as a traditional farm with animals including horses, donkeys, and rabbits, which pupils take responsibility for rearing. Pupils benefit from a therapeutic approach that fosters growth, maturity, and achievement in an environment promoting community and fun.
This is a temporary-to-permanent, full-time role starting in September 2025. You will teach English Language, English Literature, and Geography up to GCSE level, working with like-minded practitioners to deliver a holistic, therapeutic education to pupils unable to access mainstream education. Classes will have up to 5 pupils, supported by a teaching assistant, allowing dedicated 1:1 time. The school offers training every Wednesday afternoon and yearly Team Teach training to support your professional development. Additionally, you will have access to free Hays training courses designed for ongoing growth. Hays Teachers aim to positively impact children and young people with diverse care needs and personalities, making every day different.
To succeed, you should hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have experience teaching English up to GCSE level, with additional experience in Geography. Applications are welcomed from teachers with backgrounds in Primary, Secondary, or SEN education, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs). You should be proactive, passionate about providing bespoke, holistic education for SEN pupils, and possess a positive approach to behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD is desirable but not essential. Most importantly, be confident in supporting pupils with a range of needs in a new school setting.
Hays cannot consider overseas candidates for this position.
