Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting for experienced Secondary SEN Teachers to join specialist SEN schools in the Stoke on Trent area on a long-term basis.

Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and related needs, while collaborating with TAs, SENCOs, and therapists to support holistic development and ensure progress toward EHCP targets.

Qualifications

• Hold QTS/QTLS or equivalent recognised teaching qualification (essential).
• Experience teaching children or young people with SEND in a SEN setting.
• Strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other needs.
• Patient, adaptable and committed to inclusive education.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to secondary students with diverse needs.
• Create a structured, inclusive learning environment supporting progress and personal development.
• Adapt strategies to EHCP targets and individual learning requirements.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals.
• Assess and monitor progress; implement targeted interventions when needed.
• Support social, emotional and behavioural development to promote independence.
• Contribute to annual reviews, progress reports and multi‑agency meetings.
• Maintain high expectations of behaviour, engagement and achievement.

The Role:

• Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), SEMH and Communication & Interaction Needs.
• Create a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports both academic progress and personal development.
• Adapt teaching strategies and resources to meet individual EHCP targets and learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to provide a holistic approach to student support.
• Assess, monitor and record student progress, implementing interventions where required.
• Support students with social, emotional and behavioural development, promoting independence and confidence.
• Contribute to annual reviews, progress reports, and multi-agency meetings where appropriate.
• Maintain high expectations of behaviour, engagement, and achievement.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification (essential)
• Have previous experience teaching children or young people with SEND, ideally within a specialist SEN school or alternative provision.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMh and other additional learning needs.
• Be patient, resilient and adaptable, with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
• Have excellent classroom management and communication skills.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Hold an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

To Be Eligible for Any Job with Prospero Teaching, You Must:

• Hold Right to Work in the UK.
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to process a new application.
• Provide two professional child-related references covering at least the last two years.

The successful candidate will be required to register and pass all safeguarding and vetting checks with Prospero Teaching before commencing work. Any adult working with children and young people is responsible for safeguarding and promoting their welfare.
