Job summary

Young Foundations is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join their Stafford Hall School site in Halifax. The post offers 40 hours per week on a permanent contract, with term-time-only arrangements.

You will work within a SEND Resourced Provision, delivering Maths, English, PSHE and Science to learners with autism, communication needs and complex needs. The role requires QTS, extensive SEN experience in the past three years, and a strong safeguarding ethos.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status required (QTS)
• Substantial recent experience of teaching in a SEN setting (past 3 years)
• Evidence of successful teaching with vulnerable children
• Up-to-date knowledge of Local Authority and National SEND expectations incl. 2014 SEND Code of Practice
• Good safeguarding awareness and ability to maintain discipline
• Ability to work well unsupervised and use initiative
• Commitment to CPD and ongoing professional learning

Responsibilities

• Teach in a SEND Resourced Provision supporting children with Communication and Interaction Needs
• Deliver subjects including Maths, English, PSHE and Science (more may be added as required)
• Demonstrate empathy for young people with Mental Health & Complex Needs
• Complete safeguarding and mandatory training annually
• Develop and share creative approaches linking performance with well-being and inclusion
• Promote partnerships with families, other agencies and community organisations
• Integrate spiritual, moral, social and cultural opportunities within lessons

Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status
• Substantial recent experience of teaching in a SEN setting (during the past 3 years)
• Evidence of successful teaching experience with vulnerable children.
• Up to date knowledge of Local Authority and National expectations for SEND including 2014 SEND Code of Practice including knowledge of EHCP and their implementation.
• Good awareness of and clear ability to safeguard children by developing appropriate relationships, personal boundaries and maintaining discipline.
• Ability to work well unsupervised and use initiative effectively.
• Confidence to review own performance and undertake continuous professional learning.

As a SEN Teacher you will:

• Teaching in a SEND Resourced Provision supporting children with Communication and Interaction Needs.
• To deliver a range of subjects to include Maths, English, PSHE and Science. Other subjects may be required due to nature of learners and needs of school.
• To have empathy and understanding for young people with Mental Health & Complex Needs
• To ensure completion of all Safeguarding, Prevent, Foundations for Safer Care and mandatory training annually.
• To develop and share creative approaches which integrate individual student performance with well-being and inclusive approaches with attainment.
• To promote, develop and sustain strong partnerships beyond the classroom which include home, other agencies and community partnerships.
• To promote Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural opportunities within lessons at each opportunity

About Stafford Hall School:

Stafford Hall School is a split site provision based at Stafford Hall, Halifax, and Amisfield House, Hipperholme. Both sites are situated in stunning grounds, for the young people to learn, play, discover and relax in, while connecting with the great outdoors.

Stafford Hall School can cater for 20 students with class sizes of no more than 4 students. Each class consists of a teacher and a teaching associate. Stafford Hall is designed for students on the autistic spectrum, with many students who also have suffered trauma or present with complex needs. Therefore, it is imperative that the curriculum not only reflects the learning needs stipulated on the EHCP, but also pupil interest, sensory needs and regulation strategies.

Preparing young people for adulthood is key to planning, reviewing and evaluating the curriculum with destinations kept at the forefront of future decision-making. Pupils are provided with opportunities to receive information, advice and guidance, action plan, careers advice and work experience which will prepare them for future success in their next steps. They are supported to develop and discover their interests and talents.

The purpose of our school is revealed by the curriculum we provide.
