Job summary

Meadowcroft - The Lodge in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join our specialist team. You will plan and deliver tailored teaching for learners with SEND, using inclusive, therapeutic approaches to build confidence and achieve meaningful progress.

Hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, with a permanent contract and a salary of up to £42,000 per annum depending on experience. Start: October 2026. The role is based at Meadowcroft - The Lodge, Leeds Rd, Wakefield.

Qualifications

  • You re a qualified teacher (or working toward qualified status) with an understanding of SEND and barriers to learning.
  • Experience teaching learners with complex needs, including communication, behaviour, sensory needs, learning difficulties, or emotional regulation.
  • Confident in building trusting relationships and creating calm, structured learning environments.
  • Able to adapt plans, resources and strategies to meet learners where they are.
  • Clear communicator who works well in a team, valuing colleagues across education and care.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver tailored teaching for learners with SEND using inclusive approaches.
  • Create engaging, practical learning experiences building communication, independence and real-world skills.
  • Work with support staff to ensure consistency across lessons and care routines.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care planning and progress toward targets.
  • Use assessment and feedback to monitor learning, identify barriers, and plan next steps.
  • Support positive behaviour and wellbeing through routines and de-escalation when needed.
  • Collaborate with external professionals to align learning with needs.
  • Maintain high safeguarding, record-keeping and professional standards.

Rota: Monday to Wednesday & Friday 8.00am – 3.30pm, Thursday 8.00am- 4.30pm

You’ll work with pupils who may face complex barriers to learning, and you’ll be supported by a wider team to deliver personalised education and care that helps them move forward academically, socially, and emotionally.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and delivering tailored teachingthat meets the needs of learners with SEND, using approaches that can be individualised and adapted quickly.
  • Creating engaging, practical learning experiencesthat build communication, independence, resilience, and real-world skills.
  • Working closely with support staff(including Teaching Assistants and other professionals) to ensure consistency across lessons and care routines.
  • Contributing to Education, Health and Care (EHC) planningand supporting progress towards individual targets.
  • Using assessment and feedbackto monitor learning, identify barriers early, and shape the next steps.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeingthrough clear routines, relationship-based strategies, and de-escalation when needed.
  • Collaborating with external professionalsas required to ensure learning remains aligned with each learner’s needs.
  • Maintaining high standardsof safeguarding, record-keeping, and professional practice.

What you will bring

  • You’re aqualified teacher(or currently working towards qualified status) with an understanding of SEND and the impact of barriers to learning.
  • Experience in teaching learners with complex needs, including barriers around communication, behaviour, sensory needs, learning difficulties, or emotional regulation.
  • Confident in building trusting relationshipsand creating calm, structured learning environments.
  • You can think flexibly adapting plans, learning resources, and strategies to meet learners where they are.
  • Communicate clearly and work well as part of a team, valuing the contributions of colleagues across education and care.
  • You’re committed tosafeguarding and understand your responsibilities in protecting and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
