Job summary

Underley Garden School, part of the Outcomes First Group, is seeking an SEN Teacher to create an engaging, inclusive classroom for pupils aged 5–19 with autism and learning disabilities. You’ll plan and deliver personalised lessons, collaborating with teaching assistants, therapists and families to support academic, social and emotional progress.

Located near Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, the school values a holistic, person-centred approach.

Job description

As an SEN Teacher, you'll create an engaging, inclusive classroom where every pupil feels safe, valued and motivated to learn. You'll plan and deliver creative, individualised lessons, and work alongside teaching assistants, therapists, families and the wider school team to support pupils' academic progress as well as their social and emotional development. You'll also have the opportunity to take on Form Tutor responsibilities, guiding a small team around your pupils to ensure they receive the personalised support they need to succeed.

What you’ll be doing
  • Deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEN and SEMH.
  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment that promotes confidence, independence and outstanding behaviour.
  • Assess, monitor and track progress, using information to shape planning and interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, therapists and families to achieve the best outcomes for every pupil.
  • Support social, emotional and personal development while promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including pastoral support, EHCP reviews, parent communication and ongoing improvement.
  • QTS/QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Resilience, adaptability and calm confidence, with strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Experience in SEN, SEMH or specialist education is desirable, but not essential-you teaching ability and commitment are what matter most.
  • Driving licence required.
