The position is based at our SEN School in Ditton Priors, near Bridgnorth.
This is a new school and our fourth Esland school. Currently, Esland schools support vulnerable young people aged 8-18 years with SEMH.
Key Responsibilities for a SEN Teacher
- Ensure safeguarding of all young people underpins every decision made
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons demonstrating outstanding teaching and learning
- Contribute to a culture of continual improvement and high standards through coaching, team-teaching, and demonstrating excellence
- Ensure effective pastoral care of all children, including behaviour management, child protection, and safeguarding
- Maintain high standards of teaching and learning across various curriculum subjects
- Identify strategies to overcome individual pupils’ barriers to learning
- Carry out duties as outlined in the Teacher Standards
- Meet all Teacher Standards
- Contribute to the Annual Review of EHCPs
- Write and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Attend PEP reviews and complete relevant documentation, ensuring targets are achieved and the pupil’s voice is heard

Essential Requirements for a SEN Teacher
Qualification and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Degree qualification or equivalent
- Experience as a KS2/KS3/KS4 teacher
- Ability to teach across a range of curriculum subjects, including English, Maths, and Science
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Expert understanding of innovative pedagogy
- Experience with assessment without levels, including tracking pupil progress
- Knowledge of statutory assessment arrangements at KS4
- Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
- Excellent knowledge of inclusion, SEMH, EAL, bilingual learners, minority ethnic achievement, and equality issues
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and the welfare of vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils
- Knowledge of strategies for closing the achievement gap
- Willingness to teach a range of subjects
- Understanding of various SEND needs, including SEMH
- Ability to develop educational and social skills in young people
- Ability to build effective relationships with young people, families, and external agencies
- Respect for pupils’ views and wishes
- Ability to provide appropriate resources and inclusive environments
- Teamwork skills for effective resource deployment
- High standards and positive role modeling
