Job summary

Randstad Education Barnsley is seeking compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants for flexible supply roles across Barnsley schools. You will work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils with Autism (ASD), ADHD, Speech & Language needs, or SEMH challenges.

These positions include short-term, long-term, and day-to-day supply work, with ongoing training and competitive pay. DBS checks and right to work in the UK required.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with special educational needs in UK schools or settings.
• Familiar with visual timetables, sensory breaks, PECS, or Makaton.
• Ability to tailor learning tasks to individual education plans (IEPs).
• DBS enhanced check readiness or current clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
• Assist with learning tasks aligned to IEPs.
• Support emotional regulation and use de-escalation techniques.
• Work across Barnsley schools on a supply basis.

Key Requirements

• UK SEN Experience: Hands-on experience supporting children with special educational needs within a UK school, specialist provision, or care/youth setting.
• Specialist Strategies: Experience in using visual timetables, sensory breaks, PECS, Makaton, or de-escalation techniques is highly advantageous.
• Adaptable Approach: A patient, calm, and proactive nature to support emotional regulation and tailor learning tasks to individual education plans (IEPs).
• DBS & Vetting: An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or readiness to undertake one).
• Work Authorisation: Full right to work in the UK.
