Job summary

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School (Wx) is seeking an SEN Support Assistant to provide targeted support for children with additional needs. You will work with a small group alongside teachers and the SENCO to help pupils access learning and build confidence.

The role offers term-time only hours (32.5 per week) and a supportive team environment, with opportunities for professional development and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Patience, nurturing, calm and compassionate approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with children with SEN is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small‑group support for children with SEN.
• Help pupils access learning and participate in school life.
• Support children in developing confidence, independence and social skills.
• Implement strategies and programmes to meet individual learning needs.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and provide encouragement.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and school staff.
• Contribute to monitoring and reporting pupil progress.
• Support pupils during lessons, playtimes and lunchtimes.
• Promote an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued.
