Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our team. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of students with special educational needs, ensuring they receive the individualized attention and assistance they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to students with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning styles and needs.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and implementing tailored lessons and activities that cater to the diverse needs of SEN students.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
  • Collaborate with other members of the teaching team, including SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, as required, to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of SEN students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, and communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting students with special educational needs.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of different learning styles and strategies for supporting students with a range of SEN requirements, including but not limited to autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and emotional and behavioral difficulties.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Teaching Assistant Certificate or a degree in Special Education, are desirable but not essential.
