Job summary

TimePlan Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to support pupils aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs in a Rochdale school. Immediate start and ongoing long-term role.

Ideal candidates have SEN/SEND experience and a calm, proactive approach to behaviour and learning, with opportunities for developing skills within specialist education.

Qualifications

  • Experience in SEN/SEND, education, care, residential or alternative provision settings.
  • Patience, resilience and empathy for supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Desirable: Level 2/3 TA qualification or degree in psychology/education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support in the classroom and wider school environment.
  • Support pupils with EHCPs and individual learning plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour, communication, social skills and independence.
  • Support pupils' academic, emotional and personal development.
  • Assist with personal care where required.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and specialist SEN staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.

SEN Learning Support Assistant

Location: Rochdale

Pay: 95 - 105 per day (dependent on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Long-term

Are you a patient, resilient and compassionate Learning Support Assistant passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN/SEND)?

A welcoming and well-established SEN secondary school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team from September.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Behaviour Support Workers, Care Workers, or Psychology and Education graduates looking to build valuable experience within specialist education.

You will support pupils aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), PMLD, sensory impairments and complex learning needs. Patience, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping young people thrive are essential.

The Role

Working alongside teachers, therapists and SEN professionals, you will help pupils access learning, develop independence and achieve positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support in the classroom and wider school environment.
  • Supporting pupils with EHCPs and individual learning plans.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, communication, social skills and independence.
  • Supporting pupils' academic, emotional and personal development.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and specialist SEN staff.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience in SEN/SEND, education, care, residential or alternative provision settings.
  • Be patient, resilient, empathetic and consistent.
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be confident supporting pupils with complex needs and challenging situations.
  • Have a positive, proactive and flexible approach.
  • Hold a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or degree in Psychology, Education or a related subject (desirable, not essential).
