Job summary

Academics in Sutton is seeking a dedicated Food Tech SEN Teaching Assistant to support students in a kitchen-based setting. This full-time, term-time role involves working with students with ASD and SEMH, assisting in practical cooking lessons and promoting independence and routine within a structured environment.

The position offers temp-to-perm prospects for the remainder of the academic year, with immediate start and ongoing trial opportunities. Salary is £110–£120 per day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly ASD and SEMH.
• Experience in Food Technology in a school setting is highly desirable.
• Background in cooking, hospitality, or vocational education (advantageous).
• Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach.
• Able to commit to a full-time role in Sutton.

Responsibilities

• Support students during practical cooking lessons, ensuring safety, structure and engagement.
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to help students follow instructions, recipes, and routines.
• Support behaviour management using calm, proactive strategies.
• Help students develop life skills and independence through hands-on activities.
