Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Food Technology Teaching Assistant to support practical Food Technology sessions and help learners aged 11-16 access learning with encouragement, structure and support.

You will prepare ingredients and equipment, reinforce safe kitchen practices and work with tutors to monitor progress and behaviour, helping students develop confidence and employability skills in a busy classroom setting.

Qualifications

• Experience or a strong interest in Food Technology, cooking, catering, hospitality or a related subject.
• A good understanding of food preparation, nutrition, hygiene and kitchen safety.
• The ability to demonstrate practical skills clearly and patiently.
• Experience of, or an enthusiasm for, working with young people aged 11-16.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, patient and encouraging approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships with young people.
• A flexible and creative approach to supporting different learning needs.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider education team.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of practical Food Technology and cooking sessions.

• Encourage learners to participate, try new activities and develop confidence in their abilities.
• Adapt support and instructions to meet individual learner needs and learning styles.
• Work closely with tutors and other staff to monitor learner engagement, progress and behaviour.
• Support learners to understand the links between Food Technology, independence, employment and future opportunities.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
• Promote positive behaviour, resilience, independence and personal responsibility.
• Support the wider life of the provision, including enrichment activities and learner development where required.

Pay: £16.50 p/h (+) (dependent on experience)

Hours: 5-days a week, 9:00am - 15:30pm (flexibility on working hours)

As a Food Technology Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teaching and vocational staff to support the delivery of engaging, practical Food Technology sessions.This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, practical learning and working with young people who may need additional encouragement, structure and support to succeed.

You will help learners develop practical cooking and food preparation skills while also supporting their wider development, including confidence, independence, communication, teamwork and employability skills.

You will:

We are looking for someone who combines practical food skills with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

You may already have experience working in education, catering, hospitality or a practical learning environment. Equally, we would welcome applications from people with strong practical food knowledge who are looking to develop a career in education.
