Job summary

Benton House School is seeking a dedicated SEN Class Teacher to join our specialist education team in Newcastle. You will deliver high-quality, tailored education for students with autism and SEMH needs within a nurturing setting.

The role requires QTS or equivalent and experience in planning differentiated lessons. You will collaborate with learning support staff, families and external professionals to support each student’s progress and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent required.
• Experience planning and delivering effective lessons within an educational setting.
• Experience working with students with autism and/or complex behavioural needs.
• Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
• Ability to tailor teaching approaches to individual learning needs.
• Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.
• Confidence using IT systems and educational technology.

Responsibilities

• Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual needs.
• Monitoring, assessing and reporting on student progress and achievement.
• Creating a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes learning, independence and wellbeing.
• Developing and reviewing individual education, learning and behaviour plans.
• Supporting students to manage and overcome barriers to learning, including challenging behaviours.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals to ensure consistent support for students.
• Leading on curriculum areas or subject responsibilities as agreed.
