Job summary

Benton House School, part of Outcomes First Group, seeks an SEN Class Teacher to deliver high-quality education for students aged 5–14 with complex needs including autism and SEMH in Newcastle upon Tyne.

You will work with Learning Support Assistants, care staff and families to create a safe, nurturing learning environment and tailor teaching to individual learning needs while meeting progress goals.

Qualifications

  • QTS or equivalent is required.
  • Experience planning and delivering differentiated lessons for students with autism/complex needs.
  • Strong classroom management and ability to tailor approaches to individual learning needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for students.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and outcomes.
  • Create a structured, positive classroom environment promoting wellbeing.
  • Develop and review individual education, learning and behaviour plans.
  • Support students to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Collaborate with families and external professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Lead curriculum areas or subject responsibilities as agreed.

We are seeking an exceptional SEN Class Teacher to join our specialist education team, supporting students with a range of additional needs, including autism and social, emotional and behavioural needs. As an SEN Class Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, tailored education to students within a specialist setting. Working closely with Learning Support Assistants, care staff, families and other professionals, you will help create a safe, nurturing and inspiring learning environment where every student can thrive. What you will be doing

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of students.
  • Monitoring, assessing and reporting on student progress and achievement.
  • Creating a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes learning, independence and wellbeing.
  • Developing and reviewing individual education, learning and behaviour plans.
  • Supporting students to manage and overcome barriers to learning, including challenging behaviours.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals to ensure consistent support for students.
  • Leading on curriculum areas or subject responsibilities as agreed. QTS or equivalent required.
  • Experience planning and delivering effective lessons within an educational setting.
  • Experience working with students with autism and/or complex behavioural needs.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
  • The ability to tailor teaching approaches to individual learning needs.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Confidence using IT systems and educational technology. Benton House School is a brand-new SEN school for stidents with complex needs including SEMH. It is an exciting addition to the Acorn portfolio based in Newcastle.
  • Benton House School will have capacity for 60 students ages 5-14 years old. At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer. We support students with a wide range of complex, co-occurring and neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and communication needs, dyslexia and experiences of trauma or adversity.
