Job summary

Education First is recruiting an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist SEN school in Croydon, starting ASAP. You will provide dedicated 1:1 and group support to pupils across KS1–KS4, helping them regulate emotions, manage behaviour and engage with learning.

The role covers pupils aged 5-16 with Autism/ASD and SEMH needs. You will collaborate with teachers and the SEN team, applying de-escalation techniques and individual plans to foster resilience and independence.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND.
• Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
• Experience with ASD, ADHD and SEMH.
• Experience in an SEN school or similar setting.
• Experience providing 1:1 behavioural or pastoral support.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Ability to stay composed when managing challenging situations.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Good safeguarding understanding.
• Experience with complex needs, emotional regulation difficulties or trauma-related behaviours would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils inside and outside the classroom.
• Support pupils with ASD, SEMH, ADHD and challenging behaviour.
• Help pupils manage their emotions and develop positive behaviour strategies.
• Support pupils to regulate their behaviour and remain engaged with learning.
• Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with pupils.
• Provide academic, pastoral, emotional and behavioural support.
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience.
• Use de-escalation and behaviour management techniques.
• Support pupils during challenging or dysregulated situations.
• Follow individual behaviour, learning and support plans.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team.
