Job summary

Education First Recruitment in Croydon is seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor to support students in a specialist SEN college from September on a long‑term basis. You will provide 1:1 and small‑group support, work with students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour, and collaborate with teachers to implement individual strategies.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of experience working with children or young people, a calm and resilient approach, excellent communication skills

Behaviour Mentor – SEN College – Croydon – Immediate Start

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Behaviour Mentor / Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN College in Croydon from September on a long-term basis.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker with experience supporting young people with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour.

The Role – Behaviour Mentor

We are looking for a resilient, proactive and experienced Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist SEN college in Croydon.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Support KS3, KS4 and KS5 students with SEN and additional needs
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom
  • Work with students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour
  • Support students with behaviour management, emotional regulation and engagement
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Encourage students to engage with their learning and achieve their potential
  • Support students academically and pastorally
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team
  • Help implement individual behaviour and learning strategies
  • Manage challenging situations calmly, confidently and consistently
The Ideal Behaviour Mentor

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • At least 1 year's experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour
  • Experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or similar
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour management
  • A can-do attitude and flexible approach to supporting students
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential
  • Team Teach / Positive Handling training is desirable but not essential
