Job summary

Just Teachers Ltd is seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs. You will help students engage with learning and develop positive behaviours in and out of the classroom.

Key duties include building trusting relationships, implementing behaviour strategies, and coordinating with teachers and external professionals to monitor progress and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEMH or SEN in youth settings.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Patient, empathetic and resilient with quick relationship-building ability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs.
  • Help students engage with learning and develop positive behaviours.

Job description

About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play a key role in helping students engage with learning and develop positive behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a student with SEMH needs
  • Build a trusting and consistent relationship to support emotional regulation
  • Implement behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
  • Support access to learning both in and out of the classroom
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing
Pre-requisites:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or SEN needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships quickly
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) desirable but not essential
