Job summary

SMH Group in Leeds/Harrogate is hiring an experienced accounting assistant to join our busy practice. You will work with a range of clients delivering accounts, tax and compliance support, with on-site training to help you reach your potential.

The role requires 2–3 years in practice, exposure to Sage 50 or Xero is ideal, and you should be studying towards AAT or ACA/ACCA. We offer study support, a friendly team, 25 days holiday, and opportunities to progress.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years working in an accountancy practice environment.
• Experience with Sage 50, Xero, QuickBooks, Iris, MyWorkPapers, BrightPay is advantageous.
• Strong Attention to Detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and written skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the management of a portfolio of clients
• Preparation of company financial statements
• Preparation of interim management accounts
• Preparation of personal tax returns
• Preparation of partnership accounts and tax returns
• Preparation of quarterly VAT returns
• Potential to attend client meetings and interact with directors and business owners
• Assist with training of apprentices
• Company Secretarial Duties (desirable)
• Preparation of P11ds (desirable)
• Payroll experience (desirable)
• Any other general accountancy/administrative work as required
