Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs across Newcastle. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, help manage emotions, and work with teachers to create a calm, engaging learning environment.

This temporary, flexible placement offers daily pay of £95-£110 and immediate start opportunities, with safeguarding checks and DBS as part of the process.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
• Experience with SEMH or behaviour support is an advantage.
• Enhanced DBS with Update Service or willingness to apply.
• Patient, calm and empathetic approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Help pupils manage emotions and regulate their behaviour.
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Build consistent, trusting relationships with students.
• Encourage positive engagement, independence and resilience.
• Support pupils with classroom activities and learning tasks.
• Help maintain a calm, structured, and supportive environment.
• Work closely with teachers and SEN staff.
• Follow safeguarding and school behaviour policies.
