Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Gateshead from September. You will support pupils 1:1 and in small groups, focusing on SEMH and behavioural needs, helping them recognise emotions and stay engaged in learning.

The role requires patience, calmness under pressure, and the ability to build positive relationships. In return, you'll receive £98–£120 per day, weekly PAYE pay, and access to CPD and behaviour training, with long-term

Qualifications

• Experience supporting SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, or youth work.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and build positive relationships.
• Willingness to see the person behind the behaviour and maintain consistency.

Responsibilities

• Work 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Develop positive relationships with pupils.
• Help pupils recognise and manage their emotions.
• Support pupils when they become dysregulated.
• Use positive behaviour strategies.
• Help pupils identify triggers and coping mechanisms.
• Encourage engagement with learning.
• Maintain consistent boundaries.
• Support teachers within the classroom.
• Help pupils develop independence and confidence.
• Support during break and lunchtime.
• Recognise and celebrate progress.
