Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a secondary PRU in Tameside. You will support pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, helping with SEMH needs and engagement while building strong relationships with challenging learners.

The role focuses on supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and progress, with collaboration alongside teachers and pastoral staff. Previous experience in SEMH or similar settings is desirable.

• Confident managing challenging behaviour.
• Able to build relationships with hard-to-reach pupils.
• Strong communication skills within a school setting.

Responsibilities

• Support secondary-aged pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
• Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain clear boundaries.
• Use de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
• Encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupil progress.
