Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a resilient and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary PRU in Tameside. The setting supports young people with SEMH, behaviour and engagement to overcome barriers to education and achieve positive outcomes.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, build relationships, support emotional regulation and behaviour, assist teachers, promote positive boundaries and contribute to pupil progress as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Experience or passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Calm, patient and resilient.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour.
• Able to build strong relationships with hard-to-reach pupils.
• Consistent and confident in maintaining boundaries.
• Strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support secondary-aged pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
• Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain clear boundaries.
• Use de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
• Encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupil progress.
