Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking a Male SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Sutton to support secondary pupils with SEMH needs. The role focuses on building relationships, calming environments and promoting learning.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, assist with emotional regulation and behaviour management, and work with teachers and pastoral staff to help students succeed. This is a full-time position, term-time only, with ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting SEMH or challenging behaviour is desirable.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach to situations.
• Ability to set boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.
• Background in youth work, sports, mentoring or education is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to secondary pupils.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students.
• Support emotional regulation, resilience and social development.
• Use positive strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
• Encourage engagement and greater independence during lessons.
• Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.
