Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Male SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Sutton to support secondary pupils with SEMH needs. The role emphasizes building relationships, managing challenging behaviour and acting as a positive male role model.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, help with emotional regulation and social development, and work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to create a calm, structured learning environment. Full-time, term-time only.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting SEMH or challenging behaviour is desirable.
• Confident and calm approach to behaviour management.
• Resilience to work in a demanding but rewarding environment.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Background in youth work, sports, mentoring, education, care or similar would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and social development.
• Manage challenging behaviour using positive strategies.
• Encourage students to engage with learning and independence.
• Provide support inside and outside the classroom.
• Act as a positive male role model and trusted adult.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, interventions and activities.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to support individuals.
• Help create a calm, structured and supportive environment.
