Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a Male SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Sutton to support secondary pupils with SEMH needs. The role focuses on building strong relationships, managing challenging behaviour and providing one-to-one and small-group support.

You will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams, providing a calm, structured environment and acting as a positive male role model throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding checks and DBS as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with students who may have difficulties in education or at home.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and social development.
• Manage challenging behaviour using positive and consistent strategies.
• Encourage students to engage with learning and develop greater independence.
• Provide support both inside and outside of the classroom.
• Act as a positive male role model and trusted adult for students.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, interventions and wider school activities.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals to support individual pupils.
• Help create a calm, structured and supportive environment where students feel safe and able to succeed.
