Job summary

Cover People are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive, inclusive secondary school in Salford. You will support pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH needs and Autism, helping them access education in a nurturing, structured environment.

The role offers a full-time Monday–Friday schedule, with competitive daily pay (£100–£115 DOE) and weekly pay, plus access to CPD and progression opportunities through a local consultant with 14+ years of experience.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
• Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Support students with SEMH and Autism both in and out of the classroom.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
• Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative approaches.
• Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teaching staff, families and external professionals to support individual learning and wellbeing plans.
