Job summary

Step Teachers Ltd is seeking SEMH Teaching Assistants for flexible short-term and long-term opportunities in Enfield and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them build emotional regulation, confidence and positive learning behaviours.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
• Calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
• Ability to build trust and positive relationships with pupils.
• Adaptable across different classrooms and key stages.
• Professional, reliable, and proactive in supporting learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Assist teachers in delivering adapted and engaging learning activities.
• Help implement personalised behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies.
• Promote positive communication, resilience, and constructive relationships.
• Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours in line with school policies.
• Encourage participation, independence, and self-esteem.
• Monitor pupil progress and share observations with teaching staff.
• Contribute to wider school life during longer-term placements.
