Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in Tamworth. The role covers both primary and secondary students, 1:1 and small-group work, and focuses on emotional regulation and engagement with learning.

You will work with a proactive team, follow school behaviour strategies, and contribute to a stable, inclusive classroom environment. Term-time schedule, full-time hours, with potential for a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of SEMH needs and impact on learning and behaviour.
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills, able to remain calm under pressure.
• Experience or background in youth work, sports coaching, care, or mainstream school support is welcome.
• Empathy, patience and a proactive mindset to make a difference.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support across primary or secondary ages.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
• Assist class teachers in creating an inclusive, calm classroom environment.
• Support pupils during breaks and transitions between classes.
• Monitor pupil progress, wellbeing, and engagement; give feedback to SENCo and staff.
