Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Tamworth, supporting primary and secondary pupils with SEMH needs.

You'll work 1:1 and in small groups, implementing behaviour strategies, promoting emotional regulation, and helping pupils stay engaged in learning within a calm, inclusive classroom.

This long-term, term-time role offers a stable schedule, with opportunities for progression and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of SEMH and its impact on learning and behaviour.
• Experience supporting SEMH, PRU, or SEND settings is desirable.
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills under pressure.
• Background in youth work, sports coaching, care, or mainstream school support welcomed.
• Proactive, positive mindset and genuine commitment to making a difference.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support across primary or secondary age groups.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
• Build trusting, non-judgemental relationships with pupils.
• Assist class teachers in creating an inclusive, calm classroom environment.
• Support pupils during breaks and transitions between classes.
• Monitor pupil progress, wellbeing and engagement; provide feedback to staff.
