Job summary

Tamworth SEMH Teaching Assistant role in a specialist provision supports primary and secondary pupils with SEMH needs. You will help pupils 1:1 and in small groups to regulate emotions, build confidence, and stay engaged with learning in a calm, structured environment.

This long-term, full-time placement offers a stable schedule Monday to Friday (8:30 AM–3:30 PM during term time) with potential to progress to a permanent contract and access to ongoing professional development within a supportive

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of SEMH needs and how they impact learning and behaviour.
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills, with calm under pressure.
• Empathy, patience and proactive attitude to support vulnerable pupils.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support across primary or secondary ages.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
• Assist teachers in creating an inclusive, calm classroom environment.
• Support pupils during breaks and class transitions.
• Monitor pupil progress and wellbeing and provide feedback to staff.
