Job summary

Vision for Education is seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils at a Stonehouse specialist school. You will work one-to-one and in small groups, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

This full-time, term-time only role offers weekly PAYE pay at £14.24 per hour, with the potential for permanent appointment. CPD and ongoing support are provided by Vision for Education.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs or SEMH.
  • Calm, resilient and capable of positive responses in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to obtain Enhanced DBS via Update Service.

Vision for Education is recruiting for a compassionate and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Stonehouse. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who need additional emotional and behavioural support to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while encouraging confidence, independence and positive relationships. No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys building strong connections and making a real difference.

This is a full-time, term-time only position, working Monday to Friday. The role is offered through Vision for Education, with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff for the right candidate.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored support on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Help pupils manage their emotions using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Encourage engagement with learning through patience, consistency and encouragement.
  • Support pupils both inside the classroom and during less structured parts of the school day.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to help pupils achieve their individual targets.
  • Build trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and personal development.
About You

To be successful as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with additional needs, challenging behaviour or SEMH.
  • Be calm, resilient and able to respond positively in challenging situations.
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be passionate about helping pupils reach their full potential.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one through Vision for Education.

Experience in education is welcomed, but candidates from care, youth work, residential support, coaching or similar backgrounds with transferable skills are also encouraged to apply.
