Job summary

Job description

We are currently looking for a teaching assistant at our academy based in Wandsworth - supporting students aged 5-19 with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH). The school is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment to promote learning and are searching for someone with a positive and can-do, resilient attitude towards education and unwavering dedication to children to join their team.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with class teachers to support pupils individually and in small groups. You will play a vital part in helping students engage with the curriculum, manage their emotional responses, and build positive social relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.

Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.

Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.

Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.

Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications:

GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard). Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.

Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.

Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.

High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.
