Job summary

Cover People is recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant in Salford to support pupils with SEMH and ASD in a specialist secondary setting. The role involves delivering targeted support, helping students access education in a structured, nurturing environment, and working closely with teachers and families.

The ideal candidate will have experience with SEMH/SEND, a calm and resilient approach, strong communication, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH and Autism both in and out of the classroom.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative approaches.
  • Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, families and external professionals to support learning and wellbeing plans.

SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Salford
Pay Rate: £95 £110 per day DOE
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, patience and commitment to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve success?

Cover People are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged with SEMH needs and Autism, helping them access education in a nurturing, structured and highly supportive environment. The school is committed to promoting positive relationships, emotional wellbeing and individual achievement, ensuring every student is equipped with the skills needed for adulthood.

The Role:
  • Support students with SEMH and Autism both in and out of the classroom.
