Job summary

Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Salford. You will support pupils aged 11-16 with SEMH needs and Autism, helping them access education in a nurturing, structured and highly supportive environment.

The role involves building positive relationships, assisting teachers with personalised activities, and using restorative approaches to support emotional wellbeing. Prior SEMH/SEND experience is preferred, with Team Teach desirable.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEMH/SEND or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management.
  • Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support SEMH and autism students in and out of the classroom.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress.

Pay Rate: £95-£110 per day DOE

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, patience and commitment to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve success?

We are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 11-16 with SEMH needs and Autism, helping them access education in a nurturing, structured and highly supportive environment. The school is committed to promoting positive relationships, emotional wellbeing and individual achievement, ensuring every student is equipped with the skills needed for adulthood.

The Role
  • Support students with SEMH and Autism both in and out of the classroom.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative approaches.
  • Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, families and external professionals to support individual learning and wellbeing plans.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
