Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a Birmingham school. This full-time, long-term role offers immediate start and pays £95 - £115 per day under PAYE, with opportunities to develop through CPD courses and consultant support.

Experience with SEMH or additional needs, strong communication, and a proactive approach are essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour in an education or care setting.
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach to supporting learning.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A willingness to provide personal care where required.
  • Team Teach or other relevant behaviour management training is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs inside and outside the classroom.
  • Provide personal care when required to ensure pupils receive support.
  • Assist with managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver effective learning activities.

SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Birmingham

Start Date: Immediate Start

Salary: £95 - £115 per day

Are you comfortable providing personal care while supporting pupils to achieve their full potential?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a fantastic SEND school in Birmingham, supporting children and young people of all ages with a range of additional needs. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment where every pupil is encouraged to develop academically, socially and emotionally, with a strong focus on positive relationships and individual progress.

The school is looking to appoint a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant on a full-time, long-term basis with an immediate start. The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, as well as a range of additional learning needs, both inside and outside the classroom. Experience working with challenging behaviour is essential, and applicants must be willing to provide personal care when required to ensure pupils receive the highest level of support.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour in an education or care setting
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach to supporting learning
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A willingness to provide personal care where required
