Job summary

Academics is seeking a calm, compassionate Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with SEMH needs and a possible PDA profile at a mainstream primary in St Albans. Start October, long-term contract.

You will build trusting relationships, use strategies for emotional regulation, collaborate with the SENDCo and SLT, monitor progress, and help create a calm, child-led environment to enable learning and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEMH, PDA, ASD or related needs.
• Strong skills in behaviour regulation and de-escalation.
• Patient, empathetic and creative, especially when plans need to change.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil with SEMH.
• Build a trusting relationship to help the pupil engage.
• Use strategies to support emotional regulation and communication.
• Collaborate with SENDCo, class teacher and SLT.
• Help create a calm, child-led learning environment.
• Observe progress and contribute to reviews of the support plan.
