Job summary

Milk Education is currently recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils across primary schools in Leeds and Wakefield. Roles can be long-term or short-term, starting in September, with flexible days to suit your schedule.

These positions suit individuals who are passionate about helping young people with SEMH needs reach their potential in a nurturing environment. You will work under teachers and pastoral staff to provide targeted support and promote positive behaviour.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEMH or behavioural needs in children or young people.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach in challenging situations.
  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers and support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist with emotional regulation and social development throughout the day.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to monitor progress.

SEMH Teaching Assistants tojoin SEN schools across Leeds and Wakefield, working on a long-term or short-term basis, starting in September.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to engage in learning.
  • Support pupils' emotional regulation and social development throughout the school day.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to track progress and reinforce consistency in support.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to challenging situations.
  • Ability to work effectively under the guidance of teachers and support teams.
