Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with SEMH and behavioural needs in East London. You will work with the class teacher to deliver lessons and foster a structured, nurturing environment.

You should be resilient, patient and proactive, able to build positive relationships with students and staff, and applying mentoring and engagement strategies to promote academic and personal development.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • Experience mentoring, learning and engagement strategies.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and patient.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Experience in youth work, support work, care, or education is highly valued.
  • Relevant training and qualifications are desirable.

Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Start: ASAP
Rate: 95- 120 per day

Veritas Education is currently seeking experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants for specialist schools in East London to begin as soon as possible. You will be working with students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and behavioural needs. You will be resilient, supportive, and committed to helping young people succeed in a structured and nurturing environment.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing academic and pastoral support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery, classroom and behaviour management, and pupil development
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping manage challenging situations
  • Supporting students academic and emotional development in class
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to implement personalised support strategies
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Possesses strong behaviour management skills
  • Has experience using effective mentoring, learning, and engagement strategies
  • Is enthusiastic, proactive, and patient
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Has a experience in youth work, support work, care, or education (highly valued)
  • Relevant training and qualifications (desirable)
