Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant for specialist schools in East London to start ASAP. You will support students with SEMH and behavioural needs in a structured, nurturing environment.

You will assist with lesson delivery, manage classroom behaviour, and help pupils develop academically and emotionally, while collaborating with staff to implement personalised strategies. This role offers ongoing placement opportunities in a variety of schools.

SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: East London

Start: ASAP

Rate: £95-£120 per day

Veritas Education is currently seeking experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants for specialist schools in East London to begin as soon as possible. You will be working with students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and behavioural needs. You will be resilient, supportive, and committed to helping young people succeed in a structured and nurturing environment.

About the Role:
  • Providing academic and pastoral support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery, classroom and behaviour management, and pupil development
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping manage challenging situations
  • Supporting students academic and emotional development in class
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to implement personalised support strategies
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Possesses strong behaviour management skills
  • Has experience using effective mentoring, learning, and engagement strategies
  • Is enthusiastic, proactive, and patient
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Has a experience in youth work, support work, care, or education (highly valued)
  • Relevant training and qualifications (desirable)
