Job summary

GSL Education in Scarborough is seeking a resilient SEMH Teacher to work across schools and specialist settings. You will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to learners with SEMH needs, building a calm, structured environment and monitoring progress to support academic and emotional development.

Applicants should hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification, with experience in SEMH or related needs, and demonstrate strong classroom management and communication skills.

Contract Type: Temporary, Full Time, Part-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £174.70 to £270.94 per day (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education are currently looking for a resilient, compassionate, and enthusiastic SEMH Teacher to work across schools and specialist educational settings in Scarborough.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will combine strong teaching practice with a nurturing and structured approach, helping students develop academically while also supporting their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to learners who may experience behavioural, emotional, social, or additional learning barriers. You will create a calm and consistent classroom environment, build positive relationships, and use appropriate strategies to encourage students to participate, develop resilience, and make meaningful progress.

Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teacher:

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that respond to individual student needs
• Establish clear routines and positive expectations to promote effective behaviour and learning
• Adapt teaching approaches to support students experiencing SEMH and other barriers to education
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to help learners recognise and achieve their goals
• Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, emotional regulation, and independence
• Work closely with colleagues and support teams to promote students' academic, social, and emotional development

As the Ideal SEMH Teacher, You Should Have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• Experience teaching or supporting students with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
• Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills
• A calm, patient, resilient, and consistent approach to teaching
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• A genuine commitment to inclusive education and helping young people achieve their potential

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

• Have the right to work in the UK
• Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
• Have recent teaching experience within an educational setting
• Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
