Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work full-time on a temporary agency basis in a Pupil Referral Unit in Accrington. The role supports pupils with SEMH needs through one-to-one and small-group activities, using positive behaviour strategies and sports-related approaches to engage learners.

The ideal candidate will have experience with children or young people, excellent communication skills, and an enhanced DBS.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEMH, SEND, youth work, or sports coaching.
• A positive, patient, and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
• A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Help manage behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students.
• Encourage participation, confidence, and personal development through engaging activities.
• Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils' learning and wellbeing.
