Job summary

Justteachers Ltd. is recruiting on behalf of a Wakefield-based secondary school for a SEMH Support Assistant to work with their Nurture Group.

The role starts in September 2026, is a full-time position, and will run at least until December 2026. You will provide a structured and supportive environment to foster security and emotional regulation, helping pupils manage anxiety and regulate emotions while building restorative relationships.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting students with SEMH needs.
• Calm, patient and proactive approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Genuine passion for education and child development.
• Excellent behaviour management abilities.
• Two school, education or SEMH based references.

Responsibilities

• Provide a structured and supportive environment to foster security and emotional regulation.
• Support students in managing anxiety or negative thoughts.
• Have restorative conversations to repair relationships and understand the impact of actions.
• Provide emotional coaching to model identification and regulation of feelings.
• Teach emotional awareness and regulation strategies.
• Enforce trauma informed practice.
