Job summary

The Shaw Education Trust seeks a caring SEN Support Assistant (SENSA) to join its SEMH school. You will support students with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, and other barriers to learning, helping them access learning and develop confidence.

Working with teaching and pastoral staff, you will promote wellbeing, assist with class activities and monitor progress, contributing to a safe, inclusive environment and positive outcomes for every learner.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD or behavioural needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Support students in lessons, interventions, and structured activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
• Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils with social skills, communication, and independence.
• Assist teachers with classroom preparation and learning resources.
• Monitor and record student progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
