Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a passionate SEMH Learning Mentor to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in a Newcastle-based Alternative Provision. The role starts ASAP on a temporary-to-permanent basis and runs 08:30–15:30, Monday to Friday.

You will provide one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils manage emotions and engage with lessons. UK school experience and a valid DBS are preferred; Right to Work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Teaching/Childcare qualification (desirable)

• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS with Online Update Service (or willing to apply)

Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, proactive and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to support the learning of pupils with SEMH in one of our inspirational Alternative Provisions in Newcastle to start ASAP on a Temporary to Permanent basis. About the School:

• The role is based in an inspirational Alternative Provision in Newcastle.
• The School supports pupils aged 11-18 with varying levels of SEMH and SEND who have been temporarilyexcluded from mainstream School.
• The School has an outstanding supportive culture and Leadership Team, where staff work as a Team within classrooms to provide high standards of support to pupils.

Pay, Hours and Contract:

• Hours – 08.30-15.30, Monday to Friday
• Contract – Full-time until the end of the Academic Year in July 2027. Temp to Perm Contract.
• Start Date – September 2026
• Location – Newcastle

About the Role:

• A key part of the role will be providing one-to-one and small group support to individuals with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions and behaviour in lessons and around School.
• The School supports pupils with varying levels of SEMH aged 11-16 who have been excluded from mainstream School and require extra support with their learning and engagement.
• A key part of the role will be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

• A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desired)
• Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
• An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
• A resilient, proactive, and positive nature
• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide two professional references that cover the last two years
