Job summary

Esland is seeking a qualified SEN English Lead Teacher for its Daven School in Congleton. The role focuses on delivering high-quality English lessons to a SEND/SEMH cohort, while leading subject development and staff training.

You will work within our senior team to support vulnerable pupils aged 7 to 18. The successful candidate will have QTS, a relevant degree, and at least two years post-graduation teaching experience.

  • Strong understanding of SEND and SEMH.
  • Knowledge of assessment frameworks and progress tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons across the English department.
  • Upskill and train staff as needed.
  • Ensure baseline assessments are completed.
  • Provide phonics and literacy intervention.
  • Oversee reading strategies and ILP progress.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and PEP meetings.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with families and external agencies.
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.

Compensation: £41,137 / year

Role: SEMH English Lead Teacher

Salary: up to £41,137 (depending on experience and qualifications) plus £3,000 subject lead allowance

Location: Congleton, Cheshire

Contract: permanent

Hours: full time (core hours 8:30am to 4:40pm, Monday to Friday)

The role

As a SEN Teacher and subject lead, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality, engaging lessons tailored to individual needs. You will:

  • Plan and deliver lessons across the school's English department
  • Be responsible for upskilling and training staff
  • Ensure baseline is completed
  • Provide phonics and literacy intervention
  • Have over sight of reading strategies
  • Support pupils' academic and personal development through Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and PEP meetings
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Work closely with colleagues, families, and external agencies
  • Promote safeguarding and wellbeing at all times

Requirements for a SEN Lead Teacher
Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree
  • A minimum of 2 years post graduation experience
  • Strong understanding of SEND and SEMH
  • Knowledge of assessment frameworks and progress tracking
  • Excellent behaviour management and inclusive teaching strategies
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
Desirable
  • Subject/Department leader experience (or acting leadership experience)
  • Experience in teaching across alternative subjects (and a willingness to support other departments as the team grows)
