Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a SEMH Class Teacher in Newcastle on a full-time, long-term basis. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons for secondary-age pupils with SEMH in Alternative Provision settings, aiming to help them progress and achieve under challenging circumstances.

You will build positive relationships with pupils and Teaching Assistants, differentiate lessons, assess progress, and manage behaviour consistently to create an optimal learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Enhanced DBS (prefer Update Service; a new DBS can be processed if needed).
  • QTS and teaching experience in UK SEND/Primary or Secondary settings.
  • Interest in supporting pupils with SEMH.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Positive and resilient attitude toward teaching.
  • Experience of teaching within the UK.
  • Genuine passion for teaching pupils facing barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging lessons that inspire SEMH pupils to make progress.
  • Work with secondary-aged pupils who have SEMH and SEND and have been excluded from mainstream school.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and Teaching Assistants to create excellent learning environments.
  • Manage challenging behaviour in a positive, proactive and consistent manner.
  • Differentiate lessons to engage pupils and suit diverse learning styles.
  • Use varied assessment methods to monitor pupil progress and inform planning.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants to ensure pupils receive the best educational experience.
