Job summary

Prospero Teaching are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Newcastle that is seeking a dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join their team from September 2026. You will deliver engaging English lessons to KS3/KS4, support students with SEMH needs, and foster a positive, structured learning environment.

Qualifications

• QTS is essential for this role.
• A recognised PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification is required.
• Experience teaching English in a secondary school is essential.
• Experience in Alternative Provision/SEMH settings is desirable.
• Strong behaviour management and classroom management skills are required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to process a new application; right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
• Support students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
• Create a positive, nurturing learning environment that encourages progress.
• Adapt lessons to meet individual learner needs and abilities.
• Assess, monitor, and record student progress and attainment.
• Build strong relationships to support academic and personal development.
• Promote positive behaviour strategies and student resilience.
• Collaborate with support staff, parents, and external agencies to achieve outcomes.
