Job description

SEMH / Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

Full-time Monday-Friday 8:45am-3:15pm
Primary School Long-term role Bolton

Are you the sort of Teaching Assistant who stays calm when behaviour escalates, can build a relationship with a child who doesn't trust adults easily, and isn't fazed by a challenging day?

We are looking for a confident and resilient SEMH/Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work closely with a LKS2 pupil with an EHCP who has behavioural and communication needs. The role is based within an exceptional primary school in the Bolton area.

This is a hands-on, active role and we are specifically looking for somebody with previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs.

The role will involve:
  • Providing consistent support for a pupil with an EHCP
  • Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement with learning
  • Using positive behaviour strategies, clear boundaries and consistent routines
  • Recognising triggers and helping to de-escalate situations calmly
  • Supporting the pupil during periods of heightened behaviour
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SEND team and other professionals
  • Helping the pupil develop positive relationships and greater independence
We would particularly like to hear from you if you have:
  • Experience supporting SEMH, behavioural or communication needs
  • Experience with challenging or distressed behaviour
  • A calm, confident and consistent approach
  • The resilience and physical confidence required for an active support role
  • Team Teach or other positive handling/de-escalation training - highly desirable
  • Experience from a PRU, SEND school, alternative provision, residential care, youth work or similar setting - we'd love to hear from you

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional Teaching Assistant route. If you've worked successfully with children or young people who need firm boundaries, patience, consistency and a trusted adult in their corner, your experience could be a great fit.

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys behaviour-focused 1:1 support and gets satisfaction from the small wins - helping a child regulate, re-engage and have a successful day at school.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:45am-3:15pm with a 30-minute lunch.

Premier Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate vetting checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
