Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting an SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant in Wakefield to assist students who struggle to access mainstream education. The role is available for short-term or long-term engagements with an ASAP start, offering a supportive, structured environment to help learners overcome barriers.

You will support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, help manage challenging behaviour, and promote positive engagement throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Experience in an alternative provision, SEND setting or similar environment is desirable.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• Ability to build positive and professional relationships with students.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

The provision offers a supportive and structured environment, helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop socially, emotionally and academically.

The provision is looking for an SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant for short-term or long-term work depending on availability, with an ASAP start. The successful SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant will support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health / SEMH needs, helping to manage challenging behaviour, encourage positive engagement and provide consistent support throughout the school day.

The successful SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant will have:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour


• Experience working within an alternative provision, SEND setting or similar environment is desirable


• Strong behaviour management skills


• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students


• A patient, resilient and adaptable approach


• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
