Job summary

Sandwell College is seeking a Security Officer to join the Security team, reporting to the Head of Security. This is a permanent, full-time role to keep staff, students and visitors safe across College sites.

You will provide a visible security presence, respond to incidents, patrol premises, manage access, and produce clear incident reports. The role requires an SIA Door Supervisor qualification and First Aid at Work, with willingness to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current SIA Door Supervisor qualification.
• First Aid at Work certificate required or willing to obtain within six months.
• Recent, relevant experience in a similar security role.
• Ability to produce clear and meaningful incident/accident reports.
• Flexible approach, able to work across sites and join on-call rota.
• Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical.
• GCSE English and Maths (grade C+) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Patrol College premises and monitor learner behaviour.
• Use radios and body-worn cameras effectively.
• Enforce College policies and support a safe learning environment.
• Manage visitor and contractor access, issue passes, escort unauthorised visitors.
• Liaise with duty managers when incidents arise and produce reports.
• Provide first-responder first aid support when required.
• Report unsafe conditions and health and safety concerns.
• Keep training and qualifications up to date (SIA, first aid, CPI).
• Work flexibly across College sites to support business needs.

Description

We’re looking for a Security Officer to join our Security team, reporting to the Head of Security. This is a proactive role where you’ll play an important part in keeping our staff, students, visitors and College sites safe and secure.

As a Security Officer, you’ll provide a highly visible security presence across the College, helping to prevent unsafe or inappropriate behaviour and responding confidently when incidents arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Patrolling College premises and monitoring learner behaviour
• Using radios and body-worn cameras effectively
• Enforcing College policies and supporting a safe learning environment
• Managing visitor and contractor access, issuing passes and escorting unauthorised visitors from campus
• Liaising with duty managers and colleagues when incidents or concerns arise
• Discussing, mediating and investigating incidents, and producing clear written reports
• Providing first-responder first aid support when required
• Reporting unsafe conditions and potential health and safety concerns
• Supporting the College’s security policies, procedures and search and education policies
• Maintaining accurate intervention and incident/accident records
• Keeping your professional training and qualifications up to date, including SIA, first aid and CPI requirements
• Working flexibly across different College sites and supporting the department in response to business needs

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• A current SIA Door Supervisor qualification
• A Full First Aid at Work Certificate, or willingness to achieve this within six months
• Recent, relevant experience in a similar security role
• The ability to produce clear and meaningful incident and accident reports
• A flexible approach, including the ability to work across sites and participate in the on‑call system
• The physical fitness required to meet the demands of the role and willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical
• GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above is desirable
